Basically, I think the accessibility enhancements are welcome, but I also understand why some users think it should be an optional function (specifically in the Layers panel). At the moment, my main complaint about it however is that it is not implemented consistently. For example, the advanced Tab mechanisms do not work in many other panels, such as the Artboards panel, the Actions panel, the Attributes panel, the Character panel, the Open Type panel etc. Unfortunately, it's just half-baked for users that may be reliant on accessible operations without having to use the mouse or similar devices.

Ton, I think you will also see many colour swatches (called "Deleted Global Color xyz") if you copy all objects and paste them into a blank document. damianp740, to provisionally "repair" files like the .pdf you provided, you may place and embed them in a new document and save that as a new .ai file. This way you should / may get the uncontaminated parts of the documents. This is not ideal, of course, and there may be some unwanted side effects. But you may try it and check if it is useful.

Well, then I'd say you would have to clarify it with your colleague. His files may be based on one or several corrupt files and thus permanently cause subsequent faults. Perhaps someone else has a better idea.

I can reproduce the issue based on your sample file, but I am not able to explain the misbehaviour right now. Guess it is just a corrupt file for some reason.

One may also say that blends do not like closed spines with strict corner points. If you want to use closed polygons as spines, you may first round their corner points a little bit (e.g. 0,001 mm corner radius is often sufficient and practically invisible). Usually, the blend will then be distributed along the entire closed spine.

Perhaps you were thinking of Photoshop. In .psd files with multiple artboards one can select artboards with the Move tool (whose cursor looks pretty similar to Illustrator's Selection tool).

In previous Illustrator versions (e.g.29.8.x) there was no preference option to show artboard names on the scratch area. One had to explicitly activate the Artboard tool to see their names. So, I'm still not sure what your request is about.

Are you saying you were able to click on an artboard on the scratch area with the Selection tool and that immediately activated the Artboard tool? I don't remember any version of Illustrator that could do that. Can you clarify in case you meant something different?

It is not an Outline Mode issue, Bill. As Ton mentioned, the issue is about an additional stroke applied at the layer level (Layer is called "CuttingLines" in the sample file).

An additional note: As far as I can see, the issue does not occur as soon as the transparent gradient filled object also has a plain stroke attribute (other than "None"). Can you confirm that, Ton?

I can reproduce the issue as soon as at least one gradient stop has less than 100 % opacity and the entire object has any blending mode other than "Normal". If all gradient stops are then set to 100 % opacity again, the issue still persists. I'd say it's a bug.

Can you share your Illustrator file with the embedded .jpg files? Based on your description, I get a .pdf file that is about 1,4 MB, but of course there may be different conditions. Also, you may clarify what you mean by "Exporting to PDF with default settings". Exactly what settings are you using?

This is actually a very useful setting, but it refers to objects (not anchor points). If it is turned on, objects will only be selected if they are completely enclosed by the selection marquee. When this option is turned off you can do the same by clicking and holding the Selection tool / Group Selection tool, then hitting and releasing the E key, and then immediately dragging to make the selection marquee. It's a pretty new functionality in Illustrator. You may remember that long-extinct dinosaurs like FreeHand had a similar option.

I can confirm this behaviour. Surprisingly, when trying to hide a part of a compound stroked path with the assumed alignment to inside or outside and then releasing the entire compound path, the part that was not hidden then suddenly gets hidden (which is an unexpected behaviour and probably a bug).

You may check if this way is useful: 1. Highlight a graphic style in the Graphic Styles panel 2. Select menu > Same > Graphic Style 3. Select menu > Inverse If there are no locked or hidden objects / layers you should now get a selection of all objects to which the graphic style is not applied. Then you can apply the style to them. In case this does not work as expected, you may share a sample Illustrator file for inspection.
